We're DOUBLING Compute Access for the UK's Most Ambitious AI Startups

Today at London Tech Week, we announced that we are doubling the compute available through the AI Research Resource for startups supported by the Sovereign AI Fund.

The response since launch has been extraordinary. In just three months, we have received over 200 applications requesting more than 67 million GPU hours.

Those applications paint a compelling picture of where British AI is heading. Founders are building:

• Frontier AI models
• AI systems for scientific discovery
• Next-generation compute infrastructure
• Cybersecurity tools
• Drug discovery platforms
• Technologies that could define the next decade of economic growth and national capability

The signal is clear: the UK is producing a new generation of AI startups with global ambitions. But ambition alone is not enough. The startups building strategically important AI technologies need access to the infrastructure required to train models, run large-scale experiments, and develop products at the frontier.

That is why compute is one of the most powerful non-equity interventions governments can provide.

By doubling the compute available through this programme, we are helping British startups move faster, undertake more ambitious research programmes, and keep cutting-edge AI development anchored in the UK.

If Britain wants to be an AI maker, not an AI taker, we need to back our most promising startups with the strategic assets that matter.
